Valencia ends on a high note

Club Valencia ensured they ended their league campaign on a high note as they registered first win of the season against fellow bottom side United Victory.

With both teams failing to secure a place in the upcoming Dhivehi Premier League, Ahmed Visham’s second half header was enough to hand the first three points for Club Valencia in this meaningless affair against United Victory in the ongoing STO Male’ League.

Chinonye Prince Chinda could have put Club Valencia in front with 24 minutes on the clock but his effort from inside the box went over the bar after receiving a brilliant ball from Omodu Godfrey West.

United Victory were the dominant side for the rest of the opening half as they created good goal scoring chances, with Zivkovic coming close twice both from free-kicks by Abdul Wahid Ibrahim, before Ibrahim Shafraz’s shot was cleared on the line by Valencia defenders.

Five minutes before the break, Club Valencia had a claim for a penalty turned down when Yoosuf Rameez was fouled by Naavy Mohamed inside the box.

In the 71st minute, the first real chance of the second period fell to Zivkovic but his header went straight into the gloves of Mohamed Faisal.

Club Valencia finally broke the deadlock 15 minutes from time, when Ahmed Visham headed from a corner.

Then on 81st minute, Valencia keeper was forced to make a save from Hussain Shimaz after receiving a decent ball from Ahmed Mohamed.

Then in the 87th minute, Ali Shareer missed another crucial chance when his effort was blocked by Faisal.

Valencia Keeper Faisal was called into action again in the injury time, when Vukobrat Dorde fired a shot straight at him.

Club Valencia ended the Male’ League campaign on seventh place with 6 points from 14 games, three ahead of United Victory on bottom of the table.

Victory Sports Club will play TC Sports Club on tonight at 2100hrs.
