Massive point for Eagles

Club Eagles picked up a massive point in their hunt for a top four finish as they held TC Sports Club to a frustrating goalless draw in their STO Male’ League clash at Galolhu National Stadium on Sunday night.

The result saw, Club Eagles regain third spot in the league, level on 21 points with Club Green Streets on fourth as they are aheadon superior goal difference.

The stalemate left TC Sports Club, five points adrift of thetop four places in sixth spot, three behind Victory Sports Club in fifth, and their chances of securing a top four finishlooks rather slim with two matches remaining in the league.

Ahmed Rizuwan tried his luck from the distance on 20 minutes but his shot was well saved by TC Sports Club keeper Kiran. 

Minutes later, Abdulla Haneef headed over the bar from inside the box after receiving a decent ball. 

Shortly after, TC Sports Club keeper Kiran was required to make a decent save in the 31st minute after a stunningstrike from Ahmed Nashid. 

At the other end, Cornelius Stewart narrowly missed the target for TC Sports Club, and there were no furtherchances from either side in the opening half, as it ended goalless at the break. 

Just around hour mark, Naiz Hassan had a decent opportunitybut his shot went straight into the gloves of Club Eagles keeperSujan Perera. 

Then on, 67 minutes Mohamed Naim had a crucial chance to score but he failed to connect with the cross.

Three minutes later, Club Eagles defender Mahmoud Sayed headed wide from a free-kick. 

TC Sports Club continued to push for an opener andsecond half substitute Ibrahim Mahudhee was unlucky not to score when his goal bound shot from inside the box was cleared in front of the goal by Club Eagles defenders on 89 minutes, then his strike from inside the box went wide soon afterwards. 

Club Eagles had Sujan Perera to thank for ensuring theoutcome stay goalless in the stoppage time as the SriLankan keeper made a brilliant save to prevent Stewart’s thunderous strike from finding the corner of the goal as he punched the ball for a corner. 

In the next game, Maziya will play Club Green Streets on Thursday at 1600hrs.
