Maziya goes three points clear at the top

Maziya clinched a routine victory over bottom side Club Valencia to go three-points clear at the top of Male’ League point table.

The Green boys defeated Valencia by 3-0 in the game played tonight. Asadhulla Abdulla scored a brace despite missing a spot kick in the opening quarter of the hour while Mohamed Umair was on the score sheet as well.

Maziya were first to test their opponents inside three minutes when Mohamed Umair forced a save from Valencia Keeper Faisal.

Omodu Godfrey West tested Maziya Keeper Pavel Matiash in the 5th minute, before Pavel blocked another shot from Prince Chinda a minute later.

It took only 17 minutes for Asadhulla to opened the scoring for Maziya after escaping the offside trap by Valencia defenders to shot into the bottom corner of the net from inside the box.

In the 22nd minute, Maziya were awarded a penalty when Ahmed Imaaz was fouled inside the box by a Club Valencia player. Asadhulla’s spot kick was saved by Valencia Keeper Faisal.

Three minutes later, Mohamed Shifan headed straight at Maziya Keeper Pavel from inside the box. Then, Omodu Godfrey West forced another block from Maziya Keeper Pavel in the 29th minute.

Just around half hour mark, Imaaz wasted a glorious chance to increase the lead when he failed to connect with a decent ball from Rakic down the left flank.

The second goal was coming though, and it subsequently came on six minutes before the break when Umair got on the end of a brilliant cross from Alexandar Rakic as his slight touch was enough to guide the ball into the bottom corner of the net, beating a helpless Faisal at the near post.

Club Valencia’s best chance of the second half fell to Shafiu in the 71st minute when his shot from inside the box was blocked by Maziya Keeper Pavel.

Then in the 82nd minute, Valencia had another half chance for Omodu but his header went over the bar after receiving a cross from Rilwan.

At the other end, Asadhulla netted his second a minute later after beating Valencia Keeper Faisal and their last defender to put the ball into the bottom corner of the net for Maziya’s third goal of the match.

Male’ League’s bottom side, Club Valencia ended the first round on 1 point from 7 games as they are yet to win a game in this season.

Maziya currently sits at the top of the table with 18 points, three ahead of the second place New Radiant who have played one game more than the green boys. Maziya could extend their lead at the top if they managed to get maximum points in their remaining game against TC Sports Club.
