Eagles shocked Blues to narrow defeat

Club Eagles handed a shocking defeat to New Radiant in the game played tonight in Male’ League. A first half strike from Mohamed Naim was enough to see off the blues in the thrilling encounter played in Galolhu National Stadium.
Club Eagles moved to fourth place with 10 points from 7 games after this surprising win against New Radiant. After this shocking result against Eagles, New Radiant still lies at the top tied on 15 points with Maziya, who have played two games fewer than the blues. Maziya and TC Sports Club could overtake New Radiant if both teams managed to win their remaining matches in the first round of Male’ League.

A game dominated by New Radiant with superior ball-possession as well as creating numerous chances, but they lacked a cutting edge in the final third with just few of their attempts scaring the Club Eagles defence.

Ali Fasir had the first chance of the game after 11 minutes but his shot was blocked by Club Eagles Keeper Sujan Perera then the rebounded ball fell to Hamzath Mohamed, then fired his shot wide.

Three minutes later, Adrian Gallardo forced another save from Eagles Keeper Sujan with another attempt on goal.

In the 33rd minute, Gallardo wasted a decent chance to open his account for the day but he failed to connect with the corner from Fasir. Again in the 43rd minute, Djamel Romano fired his shot from inside the box goes but it goes over the bar.

One minute before the regular time in the opening half, Mohamed Naim broke the deadlock with a decent strike from inside the box after receiving a brilliant ball from Ahmed Rizuwan.

New Radiant started the second half on the front foot, and they almost leveled the score inside 8 minutes after the break when Fasir’s shot from inside the box was cleared off the goal line by Solah Ali.

Mohamed Rasheed and Fasir tried their luck from outside the box in space of two minutes. First it was Rasheed who fired shot from outside the box which went wide in the 60th minute, then Fasir fired a shot from the distance which went straight into the gloves of Eagles Keeper Sujan.

14 minutes from time, New Radiant had another decent chance for an equalizer but Fasir fired his free-kick straight into the Keeper Sujan.

In the 84th minute, second half substitute Midhuhath Ibrahim fired his shot inches over the bar from outside the box.

In the dying minutes of the game, Gallardo’s headed attempt from inside the box was saved by Eagles Keeper Sujan. Club Eagles held on despite the late fight backs from the blues to clinch a priceless three-points in their last game of the first round.

Right after Referee’s final whistle, there was clash in the middle of the pitch between players, Officials and fans from both New Radiant and Club Eagles.

TC Sports Club will face Club Green Streets on tomorrow at 1600hrs and in the second game, Maziya will play against Club Valencia at 2100hrs.
