Reds beat United Victory to increase chance of top four

Victory Sports Club received a major boost in their hopes of finishing inside the top four in Male’ League after defeating United Victory by 2-1 in their last game of the first round.

Zivkovic opened the scoring for United Victory, while Hassan Adhuham leveled the score before the end of the first half. Then Mohamed Riswan scored the winning goal within the opening 20 minutes of the second half.

Victory moved to fifth place, after this win against United Victory as they are one-point clear of sixth place team Club Eagles. Club Eagles could move to fourth spot if they managed to win their game against second-placed New Radiant.

Victory started the game very promisingly as they dominated the opening quarter of the hour and they had their first attempt on target within just 3 minutes when Adhuham’s strike was punched by Keeper Ruslan for a corner.

Three minutes later it was Adhuham again when he delivered a dangerous ball into United Victory box but his cross went across the face of the goal.

In the 13th minute, United Victory had a decent chance when Zivkovic struck a shot from outside the box but his shot went straight to the gloves of Victory keeper Mohamed Imran.

Surprisingly, it was United Victory who broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Zivkovic. Ibrahim Shafraz headed the ball into the path of Zivkovic, who then headed the ball into to the net from close range.

At the other end, Keric missed a decent chance for an equalizer when his header went across the face of the goal just around 45-minute mark.

Victory didn’t have to wait much longer for the equalizer, just at stroke of half time, Adhuham leveled the score for Victory after Ismail Easa found him inside the box and he made no mistake by guiding the ball into the net from close range.

Four minutes after the break, Zivkovic forced a brilliant save from Victory Keeper Imran with a decent header from inside the box.

In the 63rd minute, Keric setup Riswan for the second goal for Victory. Riswan struck his shot from inside the box from a very tight angle as his attempt beats United Victory keeper Ruslan at the near post and found the bottom corner of the net.

Five minutes from time, Easa had a decent chance to increase their lead when his acrobatic volley from inside the box went wide.

Victory ended the first round of Male’ League with 8 points from 7 games.
