Five star win for green boys

Maziya Sports and Recreation Club secured an easy victory against Mohun Bagan in the AFC Cup Group E game played at Male’ today. Maziya won the game by 5-2 to keep the knockout stage dream alive.

Alexandar Rakic scored twice while Yasfaadh Habeeb, Mohamed Umair and Asadhulla Abdulla were also on score sheet for Maziya. Jeje Lalpekhlua and Kinshuk were on the score sheet for Mohun Bagan.

Yasfaadh Habeeb broke the deadlock after 13 minutes as he struck a thunderous shot from inside the box after receiving the ball from Asadhulla.

Three minutes later, Mohun Bagan’s first chance fell to Jeje Lalpekhlua when he forced a brilliant save from Maziya Keeper Pavel Matiash with a curling shot from inside the box.

In the 23rd minute, Jeje threatened to leveled the game when his decent header from inside the box was cleared off the goal line by Umair.

At 30-minute mark, Asadhulla setup Umair for Maziya’s second goal. Umair struck the ball into the roof of the net from inside the box.

Just around 45-minute mark, Rakic found space inside the box to shoot from a very tight angle after being teed up by Umair and he guided the ball into the bottom corner of the net for the third goal of the match.

In the added time of the first half, Jeje had a good opportunity to cut the deficit for Mohun Bagan but his shot from inside the box hits the cross bar.

Four minutes after the break, another horrific clearance from Maziya Keeper Pavel led to Mohun Bagan’s first goal of the match as Kinshuk scored from close range to an empty net.

Just 53 minutes on the clock, Umair was fouled inside the box by Mohun Bagan Keeper Pawan Kumar, then Asadhulla struck the resulting penalty kick into the bottom corner of the net to restore their three-goal cushion.

Rakic added a fifth on 60 minutes with a superb strike from outside the box after brilliant linkup play between him and Asadhulla buildup to the goal.

Eight minutes later, Maziya’s appeal for a penalty was turned down by Referee after Hassan Shifaz was fouled inside the box by a Mohun Bagan defender. Shifaz was substituted after suffering this injury.

Mohun Bagan regrouped after Maziya’s fifth goal and they were threatening Maziya’s goal. First, it was Bikramjit who fired a shot from outside the box but it goes over the bar, then Robinson Singh’s shot went straight to Maziya’s keeper Pavel.

12 minutes from regular time, Maziya conceded a penalty after Gasim Samaam handled the ball inside the box. Jeje made no mistake by converting the spot kick to cut the deficit for Mohun Bagan.

With this win against Mohun Bagan, Maziya are leveled on 9 points with Bengaluru FC at the top of the AFC Cup Group E table. Bengaluru are ahead in the table with the win against Maziya in Male’.

Maziya will play against Abahani Limited Dhaka on 17th May 2017 at Galholhu Stadium, Male’.
