Maziya 0-1 Bengaluru FC: Last minute heartbreak

A last minute heart break for Maziya SR as they were beaten in the dying minutes of the AFC Cup Group E game against last season’s finalist Bengaluru FC. Bengaluru FC sealed this important victory when John Johnson registered his name on the score sheet in added time after a lapse in concentration by Maziya’s Goal Keeper Pavel Matiash

During the opening half, neither of the teams were able to create goal scoring chances as those opportunities were limited on both ends.

Six minutes before the break, Maziya had the best chance of the half when Ahmed Imaaz picked up the ball just outside the box to fire in a shot which was impressively punched for a corner by Bengaluru FC Keeper Amrinder Singh.

Right after the break, Watson found space inside the box but his shot was blocked by Andrei Cordos before Juanan slammed the rebound wide off the goal. In the 67th minute Daniel Lalhimpuia was found on the edge of the box by Udanta Singh but he dragged his shot wide.

Maziya had their best chance of the game when second half substitute Hussain Niyaz found captain Asadhulla in the box whose shot towards the far post from the right which was palmed away by Bengaluru FC Keeper Amrinder Singh to the path of an onrushing Umair who could not connect with the ball as a last ditch tackle from Sandesh Jhingan stopped the dangerous play.

As the game grew old, Bengaluru FC were dominating the majority of the ball possession and they were threatening Maziya’s defence on most of the occasions.

In the 76th minute Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Chhetri combined to set up Marjan Jugovic but he smash his shot over the bar from outside the box.

However, the real drama erupted in the last couple of minutes of the contest. First it was Daniel who was hauled down by Ali Amdhan in the box but the referee waved play on.

In the dying minutes of the second half with tempers flying high on both ends, Bengaluru won a freekick near the half line which was delivered by their goal keeper Amrinder Singh as this was completely misjudged by on rushing Maziya’s Goal Keeper Pavel Matiash which allowed the second half substitute Marjan Jugovic to pounce and shoot towards the empty goal which was then calmly slotted in from close range by John Johnson to give the Blues all three points.

Bengaluru FC goes top of the Group E with 6 points from both of their games while Maziya still stay second with 3 points.
