Mohun Bagan is ready to face Valencia

Indian powerhouse Mohun Bagan Assistant Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty said his side is “ready to win” the first leg of AFC Cup playoff match. The match between Mohun Bagan and Club Valencia of Maldives will be played at National Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. 

Mohun Bagan secured a spot in the Play-off stage defeating Sri Lankan champions Colombo while Valencia secured their spot by beating Thimphu City FC, champions of Bhutan. 
Speaking at the pre-match press conference Sankarlal who traveled with the team, as Head Coach Sanjoy Sen was unable to travel, said that his team is fully prepared for the match. 

“We are 100% prepared for the game against Valencia”. 

“We read on the news that Valencia is a very good team and they have very good foreign players too, but we are only here to win the match”. 

Even without key players such as Indian National team player Jeje Lalpekhlua and Mohun Bagans foreign striker Sony Norde , Sankarlal said it will not make a difference. 

“First of all in Mohun Bagan, all the players are same. There is no big player or a small player”. 

Mohun Bagan secured a spot in the Play-off stage defeating Sri Lankan champions Colombo FC 4-2 on aggregate, winning both the home and away games by an identical 2-1 margin. 

“Colombo FC is past now. Now it’s a new team and a new atmosphere. We are prepared to win this match”. 

The second leg between Valencia and Mohun Bagan will be played at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, Kolkata on 28th February. 

The winner of the playoff match will qualify to the group stage (Group E) of the AFC Cup 2017 to join defending runners-up Bengaluru FC, India; Dhivehi Premier League Champions Maziya S&RC, and Dhaka Abahani, of Bangladesh.
