Male’, MALDIVES – PDRM FA’s coach Azman said the win against New Radiant in the People’s Cup 2015 is dedicated to their ace striker Ali Ashfaq. PDRM FA won their first match against New Radiant by 1-0 and the only goal was scored by Muhammadu Sumarei in the 64th minute of the game.

“We are a family and we dedicate this win to Ali Ashfaq. He is an important player and he played a good game tonight. In Barcelona they have Messi and PDRM we have Ashfaq. He can do magic on the field.”

In the first half New Radiant keeper Marenko was forced to make a good block to stop the shot from PDRM striker Dramane. And few minutes later he made another good save to block the shot from Muhammadu Sumare.

Three minutes before the break Ashfaq penetrated the defense line of New Radiant and hits the woodwork.

New Radiant’s Ashad Ali got a golden opportunity to level the game. PDRM FA’s keeper Saiful blocked the shot from Ashad.

Azman also added that his side was lucky to win the game without any practice before the match.

“New Radiant is also a good team and we are lucky to win this game without any practice before the tournament in Maldives.”

New Radiant’s coach Mika said that he was very disapointed after losing the game.

“I am really disapointed with this result. This is the first match that I am losing as the head coach of this team.”

“Our defenders played very well and and even the midfield but unfortunately we didn’t score a goal against them. We need to discuss and check those things that we are lacking.”

New Radiant will play their second game against LionsXII day after tomorrow while PDRM FA will play

It was very unbecoming of Ashfaq to lash out at couple of new radiant players, on another day he would have got a red card for those two bookable offences. We all believe he is under tremandous pressure to deliver on his return to the ground where he was bestowed a gaurd of honour by his former team. But it doesn't  do justice to the tag of immance celebrity status he enjoys and the example of a role model he is supposedly trying to potray. Evidently he earned the ire of many of the supporters inside the stadium who wanted to see a very diciplined players playing his normal game.

Ashfaq is a lot of things, he can do a lot of things others cannot. but i can tell something ashfaq is not. he is not a leader, he is not a captain.

Spot on. He is not a leader and has never been a good captain. The sole reason why he is the captain of Maldives senior national team is because he is talismanic player who is so good at what he does as a striker and creative player. Otherwise he is hotheat who loose his head at the slighest injustice, perceived or imagined. And it is so true his emotions get better of him on high pressure matches.
