New Radiant advance to final

Male’, MALDIVES - New Radiant Sports Club has booked a place in the final of President's Cup after a heated up match against Maziya by 2-1.

In the 4th minute Asadhulla gave a good ball to RIste who was unmarked inside the box but shot it wide.

A minute later Akram’s thunderbolt shot inside the box was well blocked by keeper Imran for a corner kick.

New Radiant’s David broke the deadlock in the 14th minute from a decent shot inside the box from a perfect cross by Umair from the left flank.

In the 20th minute, referee sent off Maziya’s striker Ashad Ali for a dangerous foul on keeper Imran inside the box.

In the 22nd minute Hamza doubled the lead from a superb shot inside the box which hits the far bottom corner of the net.

In the 30th minute keeper Imran made a stunning save to stop a right footed shot from Abu inside the box.

In the 39th minute Asadhulla scored a wonderful goal inside the box to decrease the margin. Moosa Yamin penetrated the defense line of New Radiant and pass it to Asadhulla which he controlled and shot it into the roof of the net.

In the 66th minute, Umair’s bicycle kick inside the box was blocked by substitute keeper Nishah.

Three minutes later, Nishah made another good save to stop the shot from Akram

I think Maziya has celebrated a little over too much after the FA Cup win with Seytu Can’s generous help. They were still in celebratory mode, there was a hint of arrogance evident in how they approached this match. The 20K reward should have come at the end of the season rather than between two tournaments. Hotheads like Adey should have been tamed, he was overly reckless though the red card is debatable. Referees are also too easily drawn into the emotions of the match, their professionalism dissolves away at the slightest hint of a rant by a player for a decision gone against him. They should be more cautious, you can’t stop players rant as it is just part of the game. The problem is some of the referees carry their household problems into the game. They are short-fused, take their anger on the players. That must stop.
