Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant beat Maziya SRC by 1-0 in the last match of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League and lifted the Dhiraagu Dhivehi league shield, becoming the first team in the history to finish off the league with a 100 percent record.
Mohamed Umair's goal in the first half was enough for the blues to win their final game and finish off the league with a record 57 points. New Radiant won all 19 matches they played in this years league , scoring an outstanding 73 goals in the process. New Radiant conceded only 5 goals.
New Radiant's last defeat in the league was in 2011. Their unbeaten run in the league since then has now extended to 38 matches.
After the game Parliament Memeber Hon. Qasim Ibrahim handed over the League Shield to New Radiant. The top four teams in the League also received the prize money after the game. New Radiant also won the fair play award while their captain Imran Mohamed was named the best goal keeper in the league.
The only goal of the game was scored Mohamed Umair in the 22 minute, from a decent cross from Fasir.
Maziya's Asadulla got a golden chance to level the score in the 33 minute, however New Radiant goalkeeper Imran produced an excellent save to deny him.
Even though chances were far and few in the second half, Maziya improved their performance. But New Radiant created the most dangerous moments in the closing stages of the second half. Ashfaq beat 3 defenders but his right footed shot from inside the box was saved by Maziyas goal keeper Mohamed Imran. Three minutes later New Radiants Ghana defender Yoousf's fierce shot from the box went just over the bar.
Maziya finished the league with 37 points, followed by BG Sport in third place. AYL finished fourth while 5th place Club Valencia once again missed out on a top four finish. Club Eagles finished 6th. Seventh place Victory survived the qualification round but former champions VB Addu FC faced the drop to second division.
