New Radiant 1-0 Maziya: Champions Blues make history

Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant beat Maziya SRC by 1-0 in the last match of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League and lifted the Dhiraagu Dhivehi league shield, becoming the first team in the history to finish off the league with a 100 percent record.

Mohamed Umair's goal in the first half was enough for the blues to win their final game and finish off the league with a record 57 points. New Radiant won all 19 matches they played in this years league , scoring an outstanding 73 goals in the process. New Radiant conceded only 5 goals.

New Radiant's last defeat in the league was in 2011. Their unbeaten run in the league since then has now extended to 38 matches.

After the game Parliament Memeber Hon. Qasim Ibrahim handed over the League Shield to New Radiant. The top four teams in the League also received the prize money after the game. New Radiant also won the fair play award while their captain Imran Mohamed was named the best goal keeper in the league.

The only goal of the game was scored Mohamed Umair in the 22 minute, from a decent cross from Fasir.

Maziya's Asadulla got a golden chance to level the score in the 33 minute, however New Radiant goalkeeper Imran produced an excellent save to deny him.

Even though chances were far and few in the second half, Maziya improved their performance. But New Radiant created the most dangerous moments in the closing stages of the second half. Ashfaq beat 3 defenders but his right footed shot from inside the box was saved by Maziyas goal keeper Mohamed Imran. Three minutes later New Radiants Ghana defender Yoousf's fierce shot from the box went just over the bar.

Maziya finished the league with 37 points, followed by BG Sport in third place. AYL finished fourth while 5th place Club Valencia once again missed out on a top four finish. Club Eagles finished 6th. Seventh place Victory survived the qualification round but former champions VB Addu FC faced the drop to second division.

Congra New Radiant!!!!! Now i really want Umair to score at least 30 goals this season and prove the youngsters that hardwork and determination can lead to greater heights!!! Eversince Dhagan'dey shined, all other players has been living in a cage below his level. Thinking that the records he is making is only for him. We really need to and encourage others to come forward and (at least try) to challenge those records he has made. In a near future another player might not be scoring 42 goals but at least can' they try to score 30, just 30!!! For Umair he has to score just 4-5 goals more and he has FA Cup, President Cup, AFC Cup and SAFF Championship. So i think he can do it.

I dont understand why people are celebrating this historic win for blues. they have obtained the league title at the end of second round. they hardly played a match in the third round, they were declared the league winner. All the football clubs, except blues are paralysed due to FAM election and related political darkness. Only club who has got money

Happy and sad occasion. Happy for New Radiant winning the league with a record, sad for the fact FAM president chose the occasion to promote his party candidate for the upcoming presidential election. He seems to be more interested in politics than what he has promised to do as FAM president. The criticism and call for his resignation therefore are not without reasons, fans are fed up of his once in a blue moon appearance at the podium. He is not doing anything for the development of football. FAM website since the first week of March is not updated, it is stuck at Dhivehi league match number 3, since then 53 matches have been played. Yet nothing, no update. National team will go Nepal for SAFF championship in one month time, yet no news about preparation, squad. Last night supporters showed their genuine frustration, when play had to be stopped for some time due to not availability of proper balls. Ilham’s shoddy handling of FAM is a reminder of politician misusing their position for their own gains. A shame, really

With this refrees newradient will not loose any matchs.congra with the help of the refree new won the title.maziya played a better football in all the matches.but unfortunately refrees did a better job again maziya that's why they lost handful of matches.
