Male’, MALDIVES – Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has won their first ever Charity Shield or the curtain raiser of the football season of the Maldives after beating arch rivals New Radiant by 2-0 tonight in the Milo Charity Shield.

Maziya created good chances in the first ten minutes and one of that was the cross supplied by Pablo which Asadhulla failed to control inside the box.

Maziya’s Hussain Niyaz hits the wood work in the 23rd minute from a superb shot inside the box and New Radiant’s Ahmed Abdulla cleared the rebounded ball.

In the same minute New Radiant keeper Alesher was forced to stop the stunning shot from Niyaz.

Few minutes later New Radiant’s midfielder Ibrahim Fazeel came from the pitch and they were forced to replace him by Akram.

Ten minutes later Pablo broke the deadlock from a good shot inside the box which was headed by Asadhulla to him inside the box.

Maziya’s Ahmed Nashid doubled the lead in the extra minute of the game. Keeper Aleshar was trying hard to take his position in the goal after the corner kick to New Radiant when Pablo beat his marker and pass it to unmarked Nashid, who easily converts the ball into a goal.

So, it's official, after a lot of hard work, Maziya has become the current kings of Maldivian football. How long can they maintain it? A season, 2 seasons, or more? It'll be tough going for sure. NRSC hasn't gone down a bar since the last few games but certainly hasn't improved either! Why did Oppo come off?

It's not official until they win the league. Surely though, they must be the favourites this time. However, I see that almost all the teams, especially Eagles and Mahibadhoo are in great shape in time for the start of the season. New Radiant might find it really tough to break into the top 3. Victory and Valencia might do the unthinkable and end up in bottom place.. the automatic relegation spot!

⚽️ Maziya is not the Kings yet ....., they need to keep the momentum until the end of this season ..... at least they must win the league ....... I'm sure Victory must be careful of dropping down ........ TC is in a good shape but they must maintain ther form to be in top 6 ..... Valencia can give surprises ...... not last but Eagles will be a candidate for second place this year or we can expect a lil more than that ....... Let's wait and see this entertain season ahead ....... ⚽️
