Addu City, MALDIVES – Maldives national football team has started their preparation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Bhutan and Qatar today here in Addu City.

Maldives newly appointed head coach, Ricki Herbert has selected a 38 players squad for the two games and started the practice today without the players from New Radiant and Maziya.

“We came here to practice with the players who are released and we have given respect to the two clubs who will be playing in the finals so we haven’t call on those players. Hopefully we will get those players at some stage.” Ricki said to media after the first training session.

“It was light training and I just wanted to know these players and it was very interesting.”

When asked about the short time he got to prepare for the two game former New Zealand coach responded in a very positive way.

“Generally speaking in my background national team players all over the world is well so maybe you only have two or three trainings but the problem here is I don’t know them and haven’t work with them previously. So that’s probably not so good at the moment. But it is just the beginning and I am looking forward it very positively.”

“I am looking forward to the Bhutan game and international football is fantastic and we have to transfer these players based on their performance.”

Maldives will leave to Bhutan on 5th October and will be staying in Calcutta, India before reaching to Bhutan. They will be travelling to Bhutan on 7th October.

This is double standard. Santey and one other new player are suspended from the national squad for failing to take permission from concerned authorites when they played in a local tournament. How is it any different from Ashfaq's failure to report to the squad ahead of China match. He did not give a pulsible reason for his vanishing, act, not even media was intrested to learn about his status, FAM was not forthcoming in thier less then adquate dealing with the media. This kind of selective justice will not foster the comaradere among players already poisined by factions and groupnism. The whole thing thows light on devisive antics of FAM and how some players made to look bigger than the team.
