Incheon, SOUTH KOREA – Maldives under 23 team lost their second game against Indonesia by 4-0 in the ongoing Incheon Asian Games today at the Incheon Football Stadium.

Indonesia broke the deadlock in the 12th minute after beating Samdhooh inside the box. Just a minute before the break Jazlan made a stunning save to stop a shot from Indonesia.

Drago Mamic introduced Muslih at the start of the second half.

Indonesia doubled the lead just four minutes after the break and in the 56th minute they converted the score line to 3-0.

In the 61st minute Samdhooh supplied a good cross into the six yard box but Muslih missed that ball.

Four minutes later Asadhulla Abdulla beat his marker and made a good shot but Indonesia keeper blocked it.

Indonesia scored their fourth goal in the 80th minute from a penalty when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul committed by Samdhooh.

Four minutes later Irufan made a good header inside the box but it went over the bar.

“I want to congratulate Indonesia and of course I am not satisfied with the result. We came here without good preparation and we must pay for that in these kind of tournaments.” National team coach Mamic said after the game.

“I know Indonesia and Thailand are the favorites and they have been preparing for this tournament for the last three years.”

“Shafiu and Muslih played well but that was not I expected from them. I know they will be tired after a long haul flight from Male to Incheon.”

Maldives will play against East Timor on 22nd of this month.

This was to be expected. Why? Because Indonesia prepared long and hard for this. They have been holding training camps in Europe and also playing multiple friendlies against several Asian giants all year. Maldives? Held "practice" sessions for a week, didn't give time for the players to gel and came right into a tournament. What did FAM want, a certificate of participation? Now the whole point of the tournament has been wasted on us, all thanks to FAM's lacklustre management. I will be really saddened if we fail to beat Timor-Leste in the next match. Our football is NEVER, and I mean it, never going to get anywhere in the next 10 years.

Where is the blueprint Mr.Ilham to develop Maldives football? You came with lot of promises to take Maldives football to a new level? The ground reality is our team went to a tournament without the good practice, not a single friendly. At least a friendly would have been good to make the necessary changes for the coach. He is not at all happy with help he got from concerned authorities

Don't MS visitors agree that until we change FAM's leadership and bring in some strategic planning, we cannot rescue our football from the slump it is in? The current FAM doesn't seem to fulfil their daily roles until ministerial level interference kicks in. In our nation, we do have skilled and experienced football leaders. We need them to rescue FAM and: - plan the co-ordination between our Senior and junior talents in different age groups; -plan our participation in the international arena properly -exploit opportunities abroad to develop our football in the Asian region. -bring some professionalism into the organisation of our local and nationwide leagues and revitalise the nearly dead national tournament. If we cannot do the above we might as give up our football and concentrate on and redirect the football investments to other passionate Divehi sports such as volleyball, athletics, badminton, table-tennis and cricket.

What we need is an influx of fans within FAM. Forget these useless politicians and businessmen, or even uneducated retired footballers. We need football fans with experience in management to run FAM. At the moment there is not a semblance of organization or coherence within FAM and our football is on life support.
