Ali Ashfaq suffered an ankle injury in Male'.

Male’, MALDIVES – Ali Ashfaq suffered an ankle injury during a training session in Male’ with Maziya Sports and Recreation Club and said that he won’t be able to play against Liverpool FC next week.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com Ashfaq said it was a sad thing to be out of the field and he cannot play against Liverpool next week.

“I had suffered an ankle injury during a practice session in Male’ and due to that I won’t be able to play against Liverpool FC next week with the Malaysia XI team.” Ashfaq, who is in Male during the break said.

Ali Ashfaq was selected for the Malaysia XI team among the five foreign players who are playing in the Malaysian Super League. He has previously played against Tottenham Hotspur for the Malaysia XI.

Malaysia coach Dollah Salleh has called the players for the practice session two days back for the friendly game against the Barclays Premier League out fit.

This is sad news..especially when he was so pumped up to play..i met him a week ago and he said he will retire from national duty in two yrs..baf news but he has his choices..well supporters try to do the mexican wave for me again at the saff championships..im going

He has had a very troubled year football-wise. Firstly, he is no longer the main man at PDRM as they've replaced him with Traore, who is their top goalscorer. Now he as been having niggling injuries and as a result, a loss of form. He doesn't seem to have the appetite we used to see from him on the football pitch. But I guess when you get paid $60,000 a month, you just want to relax and spend more time with your family. I know I would. All that said, I hope he manages to galvanise himself ahead of the China match and SAFF Championship, because he is a legend and cannot be discarded that easily!

Imma, I agree, Dhagey cannopt be discarded. I'm very confident that we'll see his true form in the 6 matches left in WC Qualifiers. We couldn't see his true form in the first match because of the style we had to play and he played slightly better in the second match but he didn't quite play in the main striker position in that match either.
