Valencia ready for Mohun Bagan

Club Valencia Head Coach Ahmed Mujthaba claims Valencia are ready to face Mohun Bahan in the playoff match of AFC Cup 2017. Valencia will host Indian giants Mohun Bagan on 21st February.

Speaking exclusively to Maldivesoccer.com, Mujthaba said his side is ready to give a good fight against Mohun Bagan.

“I didn’t see them playing in the preliminary round, but based on the result against Colombo FC; I can say that there won’t be a much difference”.

Mohun Bagan won against Colombo FC in both games by 2-1.

“We will be ready and we will give them a good fight”.

Winners of playoff match between Valencia and Mohun Bagan will be qualified for the group stage of AFC Cup. Winner will be placed in group E along with last year’s runners up Bengaluru FC and champions of Bangladesh Dhaka Abahani.

Valencia booked a place in playoff by beating Thimphu City FC by 3-0 today. Mujthaba believes his boys’ confidence has boosted after the match.

“The sensations are good, everyone is calm. We are taking things step-by-step, focusing on next game. This will be a difficult game but we are approaching it calmly, ready.”

  1. Something indeed for Valencia to cheer about. So long in the wilderness, fighting off relegation battles virtually at the foot of the table for so long, it will be a refreshing challenge both for the management and team as a whole to make the most of the opportunity given how their last 10 years panned out. But I don’t hold out much hope in the real competition, against such a celebrated side as Mohun Bagan. Anyhow, it will be a good experience for the inexperienced boys of Valencia to taste the real powerhouses of South Asia. Any experience gained can be put into effective use in the league as the fight for top two or three spots.
