News Flash: 1-5 January 2017

The first week of 2017 welcomed us with number of news related to football and most of it came from Football Association of Maldives (FAM) with their appointment of new Senior Vice President and other key decisions to make the upcoming football season more competitive.

Shakeeb back to administration as Senior VP

Ahmed Shakeeb has appointed as the new Senior Vice President of FAM after the elected VP Hussain resigned his post to pave way for more capable people to run the organization. Shakeeb’s name will be placed for club’s voting in FAM’s next congress to make his appointment permanent.

Club VK wins third division

Club VK, who scored an astonishing 36 goals in a group stage game, beat Kuda Henveiru by 3-0 to become the champions of 3rd division. Both finalists have already been promoted to the second division.

A technical director for FAM

FAM has confirmed last week that with the help of FIFA and AFC, they will soon appoint a foreign technical director. Not much details were given yet but the decision came after considering the number of games national team is scheduled to play this year.

Best atoll teams to play in Premier League

FAM has also confirmed during the week that best four teams from Minivan Championship (After Zone round) will qualify for Dhivehi Premier League from next season. Hence, the top four teams of last year’s Minivan Championship will take part in Dhivehi Premier League this year.

Victory appoints Nazeem as Chairman

Victory Sports Club has appointed Ibrahim Nazeem as their new chairman. Victory also elected two members for their board in last week’s bi-election. Victory management has assured their supporters that the club will assemble a squad good enough to compete for major titles in next season.

Nepal keeper Kiran to join TC

TC Sports Club has decided to sign Nepal national team goal keeper Kiran for the upcoming season. TC keeper Mohamed Imran has left the club after last season, where the club finished second best in all tournaments.
