TC Sports 2-0 New Radiant

TC Sports Club beat rival New Radiant Sports Club to extend six point lead between them to nine points after a convincing win by 2-0 on Thursday evening Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League.

TC had already beaten the defending champion in the first round by a single goal scored twice tonight. Former blues captain Ali Ashfaq scored both goals for TC.

With tonight’s deserved win, TC top the table with 30 points in 11 games. Eagles sits second with 23 points, while Maziya are in third with 22 points. Both teams has a game in hand.

TC took the lead inside four minutes to start of the game. Ali Ashfaq’s one touch finish from Ibrahim Mahudhee’s cross gave them an early lead. Ishan Ibrahim had a good chance to double the lead in the 10th minute as New radiant defender clears it out.

Both Mohamed Umair and Hamza Mohamed came close equalizing. But, TC goalkeeper Kiran Kumar saved both their efforts. TC almost double the lead before the break. Ibrahim Mahudhee wasted a good chance by passing into his teammate while he was one on one with New radiant goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal. Saadhu Nizar’s free header also went wide from a corner.

Ali Fasir of New radiant had a glorious chance from the spot to level the game. But, he missed from 12 yards. In the 78th minute, Referee awarded a penalty to TC for a foul on Ali Ashfaq by Newradiant goalie. Ashfaq made no mistake doubling the lead and securing an important three points as they come closer to grab the league for the first time.

Speaking at the post match press conference, TC coach Mohamed Nizam said that it is the most important three point for TC as the early goal gave them confidence. Ali Ashfaq captained tonight’s match because he knew he can lead the team to glory. He added.

New radiant caretaker Sobah Mohamed said that the turning point was the missed penalty by Ali Fasir and Now his team has almost lost the title this season.

Nilandhoo will play Green Streets on Friday evening and Maziya will face second place Eagles in an entertaining encounter.
