Club Eagles has landed their first top flight title after winning this year’s President’s Cup by beating rivals TC Sports by 1-0 in the final today. Ahmed Rizwan scored the only goal in extra period of the game to stun the opponent.
Club Eagles has been one of the dominant forces in local football but failed to land a major trophy until today. They reached the final of President’s Cup 2014 only to taste defeat in the hands of New Radiant.
Eagles were dominant in the first half of the game, but TC came back stronger in the second half but neither side was able to find the net in the normal time. Ahmed Rizwan scored the winner in the early stage of first half of extra time. Riste provided the assist and Rizwan’s quick move find him in a one to one position with the keeper and the youngster smartly placed the ball to the far corner.
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom handed the trophy to Eagles captain Imran Nasheed and Youth and Sports minister handed winners medal to the players.
The success is also a key milestone for coach Ihusan Abdul Ghanee, who is the architect of building the Eagles team around skillful youngsters.
