SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018: Bangladesh 0-2 Nepal

Nepal knocked host Bangladesh out of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 to advance into the semifinal along with Pakistan.

Pakistan who already won against Bhutan earlier today by 3-0 booked the first spot in the Semifinal. And it was all down to these both to fight for the second spot. A draw could guarantee a spot for the Bengal Tigers while nothing but a win is good enough for The Gorkhalis.

Both the team started the game knowing just one mistake could cost them badly. Nepal tried to push the Bangladesh defense by the half chances they get and Bangladesh attacked them on the break. No clear cut chance came at both ends inside the first twenty minutes. As the game goes on and became intense, Bangladesh started to attack and threaten Nepal defense more. They became dangerous on counter attacks.

But the Nepal broke dead lock in the 33rd minute when they were awarded a free kick on the left side of Bangladesh half. Bangladesh goalkeeper Sahidul Alam embarrassed thousands of their fans inside the stadium by letting Bimal Gharti Magar’s long range free kick slip through his gloves gifting Nepal lead. There were no good chances after Nepali goal as they defended very well until the half time.

Bangladesh wearing red started the second half attacking more. But it was the Nepal who built the first attack. In the 53rd minute they created two chances on counter attack to double the lead. Shots from Bharat Khawas and Bimal Magar was saved by Bangladesh goalkeeper Sahidul Alam.

As the match came close to the end, both teams became aggressive. Bangladesh pressing so much and the Nepal kept on defending. Bangladesh tried with everything they had. But failed to pass through Nepal defense. Substitute Nawayug Shrestha scored an important goal for the Nepal in the 90th minute and killed Bangladesh hope of reaching Semifinal.

Just like the last two meetings, once again, Nepal beat Bangladesh in SAFF Suzuki Cup. Nepal will top the group and Pakistan finished second leaving Bangladesh third and out of the tournament.
