I only play for a win: Petar

National team coach Petar Segrt vows to win the match against Bhutan tomorrow in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers at National Stadium.  This will be the final game for both sides in the qualifers, and neither side has any importance of the game in terms of results as both sides are already out of the race to qualify for the Asian Cup. This will also be the first official game of Maldives under the helm of newly appointed German head coach Petar Segrt.

Speaking at the pre-match press briefing, Petar vows that his side will only play for a win despite being already out of the tournament.

“I am not a coach who plays on 0-0. I play here tomorrow only for a win. 1-0, 2-0 or 3-2 doesn’t matter”.

“Most important is to win the match for the people of Maldives, especially my first game”.

Maldives won against Bhutan at Bhutan last year by 2-0. Ali Fasir and Ahmed Abdulla scored the goals when Maldives faced Bhutan in last year. That was the only win for Maldives in the Asian Cup qualifiers 2019 so far.  Maldives lost against Palestine and Oman both at home and away.

Maldives v Bhutan match is scheduled to kick off at 2100hrs, Tuesday 27 March 2018.
