I have a dream: Petar

Newly appointed Maldives National Team Head Coach Petar Segrt established himself a personnel target of qualifying Maldives for the Asian Cup. Petar Segrt was appointed the head coach of Maldives on 14th March 2018. He signed with Football Association of Maldives a two years contract.

Speaking to Media, for the first time as the Head Coach of Maldives, Petar said that he has a dream of qualifying Maldives for the Asian Cup. He has earlier qualified Afghanistan for the Asian Cup.

I have a dream to go to Asian Cup with Maldives.  It is not realistic at the moment but come on, when you don’t have a dream, you have no chance

Petar said that he has already started evaluating the players. He has seen two Male League games and one AFC Cup game in Male’. According to him, he has already seen that Maldivian players has the talent to go forward. He said that every player has the chance to be in his team if a certain player has what it takes to be in his squad.

“Everybody in Maldives has a chance to play for the country. Doesn’t matter how older are they. But he must have the character, discipline and respect. When you have no character, I don’t take you”.

The first assignment for the 51year old Croatian-born German coach Petar Segrt will be a friendly match between Maldives and Singapore next week. After the friendly match, Maldives will host Bhutan in the final group stage game of Asian Cup qualifiers 2019.
