Petar Segrt appointed as head coach of Maldives

Croatian-born German coach Petar Segrt appointed as head coach of Maldives’ national football team. The German specialist, who made impressive achievements with Afghanistan by taking to the Asian Cup.

Football Association of Maldives signed a two year contract with Peter, targeting to build a strong team for the future. According to FAM, Petar has not been assigned to any short-term targets such as winning SAFF Championship.

51 years old Petar Segrt started his senior career in 1984 playing for FV Calw. He also played for FV Plochingen, TSV Schweickheim, SV Allmersbach, FC Walldorf and SV Waldhof Mannheim A.

Petar Segrt has UEFA Pro Licence. He graduated for UEFA ‘B’ Coaching Licence in November, 1993 in Ruit, Germany, for UEFA ‘A’ Coaching Licence in July, 1995 in Hennef, Germany, and for UEFA Pro Licence Petar Segrt graduated in October, 2001 in Koln, Germany.

Petar Segrt’s coaching philosophy can be described as good organization, aggressively attacking football with a good balance between offensive and defensive. Segrt is known by working with clear concept, intensive communication with players while keeping the authority and leadership, developing players to a successful team with winner spirit.

He has earlier coached Afghanistan football team and Georgian national team. Under the helm of Petar, Afghanistan won against Maldives 4-1 in the SAFF Championship.

Petars first game as the head coach will be a friendly match between Maldives and Singapore. The match will be played ahead of Maldives hosting Bhutan in the final game of Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers.

Darren Stewart of Austalia was the last head coach of Maldives. His contract expired at the end of last February.
