Late winner sends Thinadhoo to fourth place

Thinadhoo needed a stoppage-time winner to see off Maalhos 2-1 at the Galolhu National Stadium, which helps them climbed above Club Green Streets to fourth place.

Ahmed Rizuwan’s opener for Thinadhoo was cancelled out by second half substitute Angel Carrascosa Munoz before Ali Haisham had the final say.

The result saw, Thinadhoo climbed to fourth place with 18 points from 13 games, two ahead of Club Green Streets on fifth place while Maalhos remained on second from bottom.

Thinadhoo came into this game without their defender Ahmed Nooman while Abdul Wahid Ibrahim was a notable absentee for Maalhos and Angel Munoz was dropped to the bench.

Both teams shared the ball possession during the opening minutes of the game, and in the 11th minute Rizuwan nearly found Jose Avila inside the box but the latter couldn’t connect with the ball as Maalhos keeper Ibrahim Zameer collected the ball.

Three minutes later, Jose Avila was denied shooting chance from inside the box by Boateng as he blocked the shot by the forward.

Maalhos team’s first chance of the game fell to Adam Majid on 24 minutes but he headed wide from Ibrahim Naif’s cross.

A minute later, Majid failed to connect with the decent cross by Adam Sajid.

Just around half hour mark, Boateng tried his luck with a free-kick but it went straight into the gloves of Thinadhoo keeper Dzhanybekov Ruslan.

At the other end, Jose Avila was denied from close range by a brilliant save from Zameer.

The match remained goalless until 43 minutes when Rizuwan opened the scoring with an unstoppable strike from outside the box into the top corner of the net.

Rizuwan wasted a great chance to double his team’s lead with 59 minutes on the clock but his free-kick from on the edge of the box went wide.

Three minutes later, Angel Munoz leveled the score with a stunning shot from outside the box as it struck the cross bar and crossed the line.

Then on 67 minutes, Maalhos team’s Majid missed another decent header from inside the box.

Ahmed Niyaz had a decent chance for Thinadhoo from inside the box but he lifted the ball over the bar with six minutes from time.

Mohamed Riswan wasted another decent chance from inside the box moments later.

They were not finished from there, Haisham was on the end of a decent cross from Jose Avila as he netted a stoppage-time winner to sealed the vital 2-1 victory in their hunt for a place in the top four.
