Surprising win for Maalhos

Maalhos defeated Club Green Street by 2-1, the first win of the Zone teams to defeat a Male’ League team in the ongoing Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League match at the Galolhu National Stadium.

Angel Carrascosa Munoz bagged a brace for Maalhos while Mohamed Nazaam scored the only goal for Club Green Streets.

The result sees Maalhos remain on seventh place, level on five points with Milandhoo while Club Green Streets remained on fourth spot with 12 points from 8 games, seven behind both Maziya and TC Sports Club, two ahead of Thinadhoo on fifth place.

Club Green Streets came into this game without the injured striker Ahmed Rasheed and suspended William Macko while Maalhos were boosted with the return of Angel Munoz having missed their previous game due to suspension.

Maalhos started well as they created the better chances in the opening minutes of the first half, with Jun Kochi called onto keep out an effort from Angel Munoz in the 4th minute.

Two minutes later, Angel Munoz had another chance but he dragged the shot over the bar.

However, Angel Munoz made up for his earlier misses when he put Maalhos ahead in the 12th minute, after taking full advantage of poor defending from Club Green Streets as he lifted the ball over the keeper Jun Kochi’s head and onto the back of the net.

The lead lasted all but eight minutes, as Nazaam was on the end of a dangerous cross from Mukhtaar Naseer as the former netted from close range beyond the keeper Ibrahim Zameer.

Just around half hour mark, Club Green Streets captain Faruhad Ismail had a decent chance but he was unable to direct his shot from inside the box as his attempt was saved by Zameer.

Two minutes before the break, Faruhad came close to adding a second for his side, but he missed the target from inside the six-yard box after receiving a decent ball from Mukhtaar.

With just three minutes into the second half, Maalhos were awarded a penalty when Angel Munoz was brought down inside the box by Petro Kovalchuk, then Angel Munoz made it 2-1 for Maalhos as he converted the resulting spot kick.

At the other end, shortly coming on as a substitute, Ibrahim Rizuhaan forced a decent save from Zameer with a strike from inside the box.

Petro was inches away from an equalizer when his shot from close range was cleared in front of the goal by Maalhos players following a free-kick from Sobol Illia.

There were further chances for Maalhos, particularly for Ahmed Arif who failed to find the target on more than one occasion.
