The Blues reclaim top spot

New Radiant reclaimed top spot following their 7-1 thumping of Milandhoo in their first match of the second round of the ongoing Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League on Sunday afternoon at the Galolhu National Stadium.

Ali Fasir was the top performer of the day after netting a hat-trick and grabbing two assists while Adrian Gallardo and Ali Ashfaq scored twice in their huge win against Milandhoo.

The result saw, New Radiant go back to the top of the league table with 21 points from 8 games, two ahead of both Maziya and TC Sports Club in second and third place respectively while Milandhoo are still on sixth place with just five points from their 8 games.

New Radiant were the better side for the major part of the first half, but good chances were hard to come by in the opening minutes of the first half, with the best chance falling to Milandhoo’s Ibrahim Saeed in the 12th minute but he failed to connect with the free-kick as it was collected by New Radiant keeper Imran Mohamed.

Two minutes later, at the other end, Ibrahim Fazeel nearly setup Fasir but before he could fire the shot it was blocked by Milandhoo keeper Mohamed Imran.

Then on 20 minutes, Fazeel had another decent chance for the Blues when his header was cleared by Milandhoo defenders.

In the 26th minute, Hussain Visal nearly surprised Imran with a brilliantly taken corner which nearly found its way into the goal but it was saved by the Blues keeper.

Fasir broke the deadlock just around half hour mark after receiving a decent ball from Rilwan Waheed.

Then on 35 minutes, Adrian Gallardo missed a golden opportunity to double his team’s lead when he missed the target for an empty net after receiving a decent pass from Fazeel on the edge of the box.

Three minutes later, Adam Imran took full adavantage of poor defending from the Blues to leveled the score.

Two minutes before the break, Fasir made it 2-1 for the Blues after receiving a brilliant ball from Ahmed Abdulla.

Shortly after the break, Ali Ashfaq came on for Midhuhath and few minutes later he setup Gallardo for the third goal of the match before he made it 4-1 in the 61st minute after receiving a brilliant ball from Fasir.

In the 74th minute, Gallardo was on it again when he netted his second goal of the match after receiving another brilliant ball from Rilwan.

Four minutes later, it was 6-1 when Ashfaq was on the score sheet again having received another brilliant ball from Fasir.

Fasir added further misery to Milandhoo’s day when he completed his hat-trick to change the score to 7-1 with a calm finish from inside the box with four minutes remaining on the clock.

Then on 88 minutes, Fasir nearly added another with a brilliant solo run down the left side but his shot went straight to Imran before the latter was called into action again when Ashfaq fired a free-kick straight at him.
