Green boys ends the first round on a high note

Maziya ends the first round on a high note after clinching a comfortable 3-0 win against Maalhos in the ongoing Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League.
The win kept Maziya in second place with 16 points, two behind the leaders New Radiant. Meanwhile, Maalhos remained at seventh place with only 2 points from their 7 games.

Maziya coach Marjan Sekulovski opted to start Yasfaad Habeeb in place of suspended Mohamed Arif in the midfield. And they were boosted with the return of Assad Ali and Mohamed Irufan from suspension and injury respectively while Angel Carrascosa Munoz was a notable absentee for Maalhos due to suspension.

Maalhos team’s Abdulla Ibrahim turned Mohamed Umair’s corner into his own net to put Maziya 1-0 ahead on 34 minutes.

Then, Ahmed Imaz fired inches wide and Yasfaad struck the cross bar during the late part of the first half.

Maziya started the second half strongly and Keric Andrej double their lead in the 53rd minute after receiving a decent pass from Umair.

Maalhos players wasted a glorious chance on 66 minutes when they failed to connect with a decent ball through a free-kick by second half substitute Ali Hafiz.

Two minutes later, Maalhos keeper Ibrahim Zameer produced a quick double save to deny both Yasfaad and Assad Ali from inside the box.

Then, Boateng wasted a decent chance from inside the box when he fired the shot straight into the gloves of Maziya keeper Mahmoud Al Yoossef with 12 minutes from time.

At the other end, Keric wasted a glorious chance to extend his team’s lead when he failed to beat the keeper Zameer from inside the six-yard box as his shot was saved by the latter.

However, Umair made it 3-0 in the second minute of injury time with a stunning free-kick from outside the box.
