The Blues go top after a difficult win against Milandhoo

New Radiant goes top of the table after Adrian Gallardo’s penalty helped them edge past a resilient Milandhoo side 1-0 at Galolhu National Stadium on Sunday evening in the ongoing Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League.

The result lifts the Blues to the top spot with 12 points from 5 games, while Milandhoo are still on sixth spot with 2 points.

Maziya could regain the top spot if they managed to win their game against Club Green Streets on Monday.

The Blues bossed proceedings as they threatened to open the scoring three times in the opening 15 minutes, but Adrian Gallardo lifted the ball over the bar, Ibrahim Fazeel’s free-kick was saved by Milandhoo keeper Mohamed Imran then the rebound fell to Hussein El Dor who fired over the bar.

The best chance for the Blues fell to Gallardo, six minutes later when he forced Milandhoo keeper Mohamed Imran into a save with his strike from inside the area after receiving a decent cross from Ali Fasir down the right flank.

Then on 38 minutes, Mohamed Zameer’s shot from inside the box was blocked by Akram Abdul Ghani before Ali Ashfaq then came close with a free-kick from outside the box but his shot went straight into the gloves of keeper Imran moments later.

In the 55th minute, Fasir forced another decent save from Mohamed Imran just inside the box.

Milandhoo did their best to make New Radiant work for a result, but after Hamza was brought down inside the box by Ibrahim Saeed, the deadlock was finally broken on 67 minutes when the Blues striker Gallardo scored what proved to be the winner from the resulting spot-kick.

Asrar Abdulla almost pulled one back in the 78th minute when he hits the post with a decent strike from the distance, the Blues keeper Imran Mohamed nearly beaten.

The closing stages produced another couple of chances, although Ashfaq fired over the bar and had another shot blocked by Mohamed Areef in space of few minutes.
