Keric helps Maziya extend their lead at the top

Keric Andrej scored Maziya’s winner as they saw off a resilient Milandhoo side with a 1-0 victory to extend their lead at the top to three points in the ongoing Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League.

The result leaves, Maziya at the top of the table with 9 points after three games, three ahead of TC Sports Club, New Radiant and Club Green Streets on second, third and fourth spot respectively.

Meanwhile, Milandhoo remain in seventh place after suffering their second defeat in third game.

Maziya made four changes to their side from last game as they brought in Qasim Samaam, Hassan Shifaz, Ismail Easa and Ahmed Imaz in place of Mohamed Irufan, Assad Ali, Mohamed Umair and Samooh Ali.

It was Maziya who created the first chance of the game with just 3 minutes on the clock when Asadhulla Abdulla picked out Hassan Shifaz inside the box but the latter fired his shot wide from close range.

Asadhulla fired a shot over the bar in the 8th minute before he dragged another attempt wide through a corner from Ahmed Imaz.

Another effort from Asadhulla was well wide from the goal as Maziya looked the more likely to break the deadlock.

Then on 25 minutes Keric’s header from a decent cross from Imaz went over the bar before Maziya were dealt a blow when their captain Asadhulla was forced to withdraw from the field after injuring his knee, moments later. Mohamed Irufan replaced the injured frontman.

In the 32nd minute, Milandhoo keeper Mohamed Imran spilled Ismail Easa’s shot in the path of Shifaz but he could not hit the rebound shot well as his weak effort was saved by Imran again.

After a disappointing opening period, Maziya coach sekulovski brought on Mohamed Umair for Imaz.

But it was Milandhoo who had the better start after the break as they threatened to opened the scoring immediately after restart as Mohamed Zameer’s strike went deflected off the cross bar but then it was punched for a corner by Maziya keeper Mahmoud Ali Youssef.

Ishan Ibrahim had another decent chance on 55 minutes but his shot from inside the box went deflected off a defender and straight into the gloves of keeper Mahmoud.

Mahmoud was called into action again as he produced another save to deny an attempt from Mohamed Hassan around 60-minute mark.

Then in the 68th minute, Mohamed Umair had a decent chance to score as he forced a superb save from Imran with a free-kick from outside the box.

In the 75th minute, Keric delivered a decent ball from inside the box as it went across the face of the goal but Shifaz missed the target for an empty net as he dragged the shot over the bar.

Then on 82 minutes, Assad Ali turned provider for Keric’s opener as he made an immediate impact shortly coming on for Shifaz.

Keric should have double their lead one minute from time but he missed the target.
