High flying Green Streets goes top

Newly promoted side, Club Green Streets continued their impressive display in the Ongoing STO Male’ League as they clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against Club Eagles.
The win helps Club Green Streets move to the top of the table with 27 points from 14 games, one ahead of both Maziya and New Radiant on second and third respectively. Meanwhile, Club Eagles dropped to fifth place after the defeat, handing the fourth spot to TC Sports Club as they are ahead on superior goal difference.

Both teams came into this important game without some of their key players missing due to injury suspensions. Club Green Streets were without their star player Sobol Illia, Mohamed Shaffaz and Mohamed Saif while Ahmed Nashid missed out for Eagles with an injury.

Club Green Streets made a perfect start when they took the lead in the fifth minute through Ahmed Nizam after poor defending from Club Eagles players.

Club Eagles had a decent chance to level the score just a few minutes later, but Anderson’s shot was saved by Club Green Streets Keeper Jun Kochi.

Then on 17 minutes, Ahmed Rizuwan had a decent chance to score but his header went straight into the gloves of Jun Kochi.

Ibrahim Aisam had another chance to equalize in the 24th minute, but his strike hits the post before he headed over the bar from a cross by Rizuwan moments later.

Then, Anderson had another decent chance from inside the box but his shot was saved by Kochi in the 39th minute before Mohamed Naim tried to chip the ball over the keeper’s head but he missed the target again.

The second half started as the first one had ended, with Eagles in control and they had the first chance after the break as Imran Nasheed missed a crucial chance on 56 minutes, when he dragged the shot wide after receiving a decent ball from Ahmed Zaad.

Then in the 72nd minute, double saves from Jun Kochi denied both Hussain Shifau and Mahmoud Sayed from close range.

Rizuwan could have level the score with a stunning free-kick from the distance, 11 minutes from time but his attempt missed the target by few inches.

Then, Club Eagles had several chances to equalise in the last 10 minutes of the second period, most notably to Naim, who twice found himself with decent scoring chances, but he could not convert.

New Radiant will play Maziya on tonight at 2100hrs.
