Green Street victorious against Maziya

AGre brilliant free-kick from Sobol Illia who was later sent off earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Club Green Streets against Maziya in the Male’ League game played this afternoon.

After the win, Club Green Streets move to third in the league standings with 24 points from 13 games, three ahead of Club Eagles on fourth place.

Meanwhile, Maziya are still at the top of the table with 25 points from 13 games, but New Radiant could pip them to first spot if they managed to get all three points in their game against Club Eagles.

Maziya came into this game without their Captain Asadhulla Abdulla and defender Milos Kovacevic due to their yellow card suspensions. And were forced to make several changes to their starting line up; Assad Ali playing upfront and Hassan Shifaz deployed in defence.

Maziya were unlucky not to open the scoring in the 5th minute, when Alexandar Rakic delivered a decent ball from a free-kick few yards from the bye-line but Maziya players failed to connect with it.

Then, on 11 minutes, Mohamed Irufan flicked a shot straight into the gloves of Club Green Streets Keeper Jun Kochi after receiving a corner from Mohamed Umair.

In the 36th minute, Kovalchuk tried his luck from outside the box with a free-kick but his went shot wide.

Umair wasted a great chance in the 45th minute as his acrobatic volley went flying over the bar after receiving a decent cross from Hassan Shifaz.

Early in the second half, Hussain Niyaz missed a crucial chance from inside the box as he failed to connect with the ball from Umair.

It was a costly miss as Illia broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, with a brilliant free-kick which strike in off the post and into the bottom corner of the net.

Umair should have levelled moments later but he was not quick enough so a decent save from Jun Kochi denied him from inside the box.

Then, Rakic had the ball in the net in the 56th minute but it was ruled out offside. Following the Rakic goal, Maziya players appealed to the referee but after consulting with the linesman but he denied it.

Maziya were dealt a further blow when Hussain Niyaz received marching orders from the referee in the 65th minute.

With 17 minutes to go, Umair had another glorious opportunity to level the score but he hits the underside of the bar with a brilliant free-kick from few yards outside the box.

In the stoppage-time, Club Green Streets were down to ten-man when the referee sent off their impressive playmaker Illia as he picked up a second booking for a needless foul.

New Radiant will play against Club Eagles in the next match on tonight at 2100hrs.
