Eagles misses chance to go third

Club Eagles missed out on a wonderful chance to go third place after they were held to a goalless draw against Victory Sports Club in the Male League game played on today at the Galolhu National Stadium.

It was a match of few clear cut chances with Musthafa Seddik going close with a decent header in the 12th minute, but he was denied from point-blank range by Club Eagles Keeper Sujan Perera.

Then, Ahmed Rizuwan twice went close for Club Eagles in the opening 30 minutes as he forced Victory keeper Mahmoud Al Yoosef into sharp saves.

Just around 45th minute mark, Ahmed Nashid tested the Keeper Mahmoud Al Yoosef from the distance but his shot went straight to Victory keeper.

Then almost immediately Ansar had another attempt on goal, this time his shot went straight to the keeper Mahmoud Al Yoosef too.

Then in the injury time of the first half, probably the best chance fell to Rizuwan but he failed to connect with the cross from Hussain Shifau down the right flank as he was unmarked inside the box.

The second half was a low-key affair as both teams struggled in the final third. But Club Eagles dominated the opening proceedings as both Ansar Ibrahim and Rizuwan forced saves from Victory keeper Mahmoud Al Yoosef.

Meanwhile, Victory looked much dangerous in the last quarter of an hour of the game and as a result Mohamed Riswan had a decent chance in the 78th minute but his shot was saved by Keeper Sujan.

Then, three minutes before regular time, Keric Andrej had a wonderful opportunity to score from a decent cross from Rilwan Waheed but before he could hit it shot, on rushing Keeper Sujan blocked the ball.

At the other end, Eagles defender Sayed Mohamed had a decent shot from outside the box but it was deflected off a defender for a corner.

Then, in the last minute of regular time, brilliant play from Riswan almost setup a goal for Keric whose first touch let him down as he failed to control the ball from close range.

In the closing stages of second half, Club Eagles substitute, Naim tried his luck from the distance but his shot went straight to keeper Mahmoud Al Yoosef.

As the encounter lacked real quality in the final third, with both sides failing to open their account the game ended 0-0.

The result leaves Club Eagles still at fourth place with 17 points, one behind Club Green Streets on third. Meanwhile, Victory Sports Club climbed to fifth after the draw as they now have 15 points from 10 games, one ahead of TC Sports Club on sixth.

Maziya will play United Victory in the next game of Male’League on tonight at 2100hrs.
