Bhutan’s winless run against Maldives continues

Bhutan’s winless run against Maldives continued as they were beaten 2-0 at home in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifying game played on this evening at Changlingmithang Stadium.

Ali Fasir opened the scoring through a penalty, three minutes before the break while Ahmed Abdulla added another midway through the second half.

During the opening half, both teams failed to create goal scoring chances.

The first real chance of the half fell to Naiz Hassan in the 34th minute when he fired a shot over the bar from inside the box after receiving a decent cross by Akram Abdul Ghani.

Maldives didn’t have to wait much longer for the opening goal as Fasir broke the deadlock through a penalty on 42 minutes when he calmly converted from the spot after being fouled by Bhutan defender inside the box.

Bhutan started the second half promisingly as they created dangerous attacks in the opening 10 minutes of the second half through Chencho Gyeltshen but they were denied on both occasions by Maldivian Keeper Mohamed Faisal.

Maldives continued to pressure after the introduction of Hamzath Mohamed and eventually found a well-deserved winner through Ahmed Abdulla in the 74th minute, when he netted from close range after receiving a fine ball from Hamza.

Maldives play Oman in their next game in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers on 5th September 2017.
