Fasir scores as Blues beat Valencia

New Radiant clinched a narrow 1-0 win against Club Valencia despite missing key players due to suspension. Ali Fasir scored the only goal of the game just few minutes into the second half.

Coming to this game New Radiant were forced to make numerous changes to their starting lineup as they were missing some of their key players due to suspension.

New Radiant were without their captain Imran Mohamed at goal, Djamel in the midfield and star striker Adrian Gallardo following their unsporting behavior at the end of the last game against Club Eagles as all these players received two-match bans. Akram Abdul Ghani was a notable absentee as well after picking his second yellow card of the season.

During the first half, Club Valencia failed to pose any threat as they were unable to test Abdulla Ziyazan at New Radiant’s goal. The Blues dominated the possession for a large part of the opening half, still they failed to pose any genuine threat with the ball. But it was Fasir who came close scoring in the 24th minute when he nearly beats Valencia keeper with a brilliantly taken corner, then two minutes later his weak effort from inside the box went straight into the gloves of Keeper Faisal. Then, in the 31st minute, another half chance fell to Hamza when he failed to connect with a decent cross from Fasir.

Fasir atoned for their frustrating first half display by firing the opener on 47 minutes as he capitalizes from a defensive error by Chinda Chizi Kaka just outside the box. Last Season’s golden boot winner, Fasir made no mistake by guiding the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

At the other end, Ziyazan produced a superb save to deny Ahmed Rilwan in the 63rd minute, then again on 79th minute, he was on mark to stop another decent shot from Ahmed Visham from outside the box. Seconds later, another decent chance fell to Ibrahim Hamdhaan but his shot from inside the box hits fellow player Omodu Godfrey West.

In the dying minutes of the game, Valencia were reduced to ten-man following the dismissal of Chinonye Prince, receiving a second booking for a dangerous foul on goal scorer Fasir, who was taken off on the stretcher after the injury.

This result means, New Radiant still remain in second place with 18 points from 8 games while Club Valencia, after their sixth straight defeat, are still at bottom of the table with 1 point from 8 games.

Club Eagles will play against United Victory on Sunday at 2100 hrs.
