Maziya’s winning form continues

United Victory were unable to halt Maziya’s relentless Male’ League run as their captain Asadhulla Abdulla struck the only goal of the match in the 80th minute to help his team continue the winning form in the domestic season.

Ahead of their AFC Cup Group E game against Mohun Bagan, Maziya were boosted with the return of Andrei Cordos at the back and Assad Ali in the midfield for this game against sixth placed-team United Victory.

During the opening half, neither of the teams created any clear cut chances and the half ended goalless despite creating half chances from either side.

Just under 11 minutes on the clock, Mohamed Umair fired his shot wide of the post.

Two minutes later, Maziya’s attack from Ahmed Imaaz was stopped by a last ditch tackle by United Victory’s defender Vukobrat Dorde just inside the box.

In the 27th minute, the best chance of the opening half fell to Maziya’s centre back Cordos when he rattled the bar from Alexandar Rakic’s corner down the right side.

Four minutes before the break, United Victory’s Naavy Mohamed fired a shot into the side netting as the half was ending in disappointing fashion for Maziya. United Victory were impressive in the opening half for stopping Maziya

Maziya started the second half in much better. In the 57th minute, Rakic fired an acrobatic volley straight into the gloves of the United Victory Keeper Ruslan Amirov.

Then flurry of chances fell to Umair, first he fired his free kick from outside the box straight at the United Victory Keeper Ruslan Amirov. Again he was involved when his goal was disallowed for offside in 72nd minute after receiving a fine ball from Hussain Niyaz. Four minutes later, Rakic fired his shot into the side netting from inside the box.

All the hard work by United Victory were undone, 10 minutes from time when Asadhulla strike from inside the box found the back of the net after receiving a brilliant ball from second half substitute Hussain Niyaz.

What a performance from United Victory against a top side, if not for the impressive cameo from second half substitute Niyaz down the right flank they could have snatched an important point against Maziya.

With this win against United Victory, Sekulovski’s side extended their unbeaten run to 6 games in the domestic season, with five in the league but still are leveled on 15 points with the leaders New Radiant, who are ahead on goals scored. Meanwhile, Maziya have a game in hand over the leaders.

In the next game of Male’ League, Victory will be up against their longtime rivals Club Valencia, tonight at 2100hrs.
