Alexandar Rakic’s winning goal against Victory assured Maziya Sports and Recreation Club remain unbeaten in the league this year.
Maziya are still unbeaten in the opening five games of the domestic season as they have won all five of them while conceding just one goal so far.
The only goal of the match was scored by Serbian attacker Rakic, under 4 minutes into the second half when he struck a superb free kick from the edge of the box from the center.
Victory started the game very promisingly as they made the first attempt on goal in the 16th minute, when Victory’s Keric’s effort went inches over the bar.
Victory went closer again just around the half hour mark when Mohamed Seddik turned provider, teeing up Keric who shot straight at Matiash from close range.
Maziya did not get a sight of goal until the 38th minute, when terrible defending from Victory almost gifted a golden opportunity to Maziya’s Captain Asadhulla Abdulla, unbelievably he missed the chance for an empty goal as his shot went wide from the left side.
Maziya responded well to their disappointments from the first half when three minutes into the second half, Victory Sports Club defender Ibrahim Rasheed brought down Mohamed Umair, which looked to be just inside the box but the referee awarded a free kick on the edge of the box.
Maziya’s free kick specialist, Rakic stepped for the occasion as he fired a sublime free kick from center of the box into the roof of the net give the lead for Maziya.
In the 52nd minute, Umair had a decent chance to extend the lead for Maziya when his header went few inches over the bar.
A minute later, Hassan Shifaz’s goal bound effort was well saved by Victory Keeper Mahmoud.
Hassan Adhuham was inches away from leveling the score in the 74th minute as his shot from the outside of the box struck the post.
Maziya’s goal scorer Rakic had another chance to increase the lead but his effort was punched by Victory keeper Mahmoud for a corner kick.
