National team training started

Maldives national team gearing up for their first game in AFC Asian Cup qualifying has started their training yesterday under Darren Stewart, who signed a permanent contract with FAM recently.

The biggest omissions from the preliminary squad are skipper Ali Ashfaq (inured) and keeper Imran Mohamed (retired).

The initial squad had just two keepers but the FA added two more keepers before the official trainings started.

The current squad is rightly dominated by players from league champions Maziya, who is enjoying a thrilling start to new season under new coach Sekulovski. A total of nine players from Maziya are in the initial squad.

TC, New Radiant and Eagles contribute four players from each team.
