A must win game says Mohun Bagan coach

Mohun Bagan head coach Sanjoy Sen has described the match against Maldivian side Club Valencia, as a “must-win” match as they are set to face each other in the second leg of AFC Cup playoff today at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, Kolkata.

First leg between the two sides ended one goal each last week in Male’.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference Sanjoy, who did not travel along with the team for the away game, said that his side will try to register a big win against the guests.

“This is a must win situation and we will try to register a big win”.

“We could have won by a big margin in the first leg and a big win will help us erase those memories”.

Indian National team player Jeje Lalpekhlua and Mohun Bagan’s foreign striker Sony Norde, two key players who did not travel for the first leg against Valencia, are likely to feature in today’s game.

The winner of the playoff match will qualify to the group stage (Group E) of the AFC Cup 2017 to join defending runners-up Bengaluru FC, India; Dhivehi Premier League Champions Maziya S&RC, and Dhaka Abahani, of Bangladesh.

  1. Having done not so well in the home leg, they have asked themselves a lot more to do than they had bargained for. So you don’t realistically see them acquit themselves any better given Mohun Bagan will have their full first eleven to go at full throttle. May be a better preparation could have helped!
